Fat transfer to the buttock has become an extremely popular procedure as it has the ability to enhance the entire body shape. It can transform a woman’s body from a square appearance to more of an hour glass shape.
The amount of fat that needs to be transferred varies from patient to patient. The ultimate results come from the combination of liposculpting and the augmentation of the buttock. In the majority of women a minimum of 400cc of fat needs to be transferred to each buttock cheek (thus a total of 800cc of fat) to see a real difference, however on average patients typically have 800cc placed per side in the buttock for an augmentation. Some patients will have up to 1200cc of fat transferred to each side. The beauty of the procedure is that it can be tailored to the needs and desires of each patient.
Fat cannot be compared to breast implants. 800cc of augmentation for a buttock is not the same as an 800cc implant for a breast augmentation. Fat is softer and thus takes more volume to augment the buttock.
The areas that need to be liposuctioned to harvest the fat also depends from person to person as typically only half of the fat that is liposuctioned is good usable fat for the augmentation. The most common areas of liposuction in a Brazilian Butt Lift are the back, abdomen, flanks and thighs.
Unfortunately you cannot store your fat to used at a later date. The fat will not be usable at that time. Storing the fat and trying to use it at a later date will be a set-up for problems. If you need more fat at a later time then you will need your surgeon to liposuction another area.
Fat transfer needs to be transferred with a lot of care and in a meticulous nature so that patients can have the best result possible. It is common for patients to have multiple sessions of fat grafting as they typically love the results that fat can achieve in augmenting the butt and thus they want it done for their hands, face (typically done in combination with facelifts) or breasts.
This meticulous nature of handling the fat will give patients a result that they will love. If you are at a healthy weight and maintain that you will be able to enjoy your results for years.
How much fat can be transferred during a Brazilian Butt Lift is a very common question. Mostly because patients want to make sure they are going to achieve the result that they desire from the procedure.
There are a couple factors that go into how much fat can be transferred and the shape that you will have after the procedure. The first is how much fat you have to harvest (liposuction). Typically if patients have a BMI over 22 they will have enough fat for the augmentation of their buttock.
The second factor is the shape of your butt pre-operatively. The fat is great in terms of being a natural filler for the buttock. However there is a limit to the amount of fat that can be placed in the buttock in one operation. The skin envelope has to be able to accommodate the fat that is transferred. The more shape and buttock an individual has prior to the operation the more fat can be transferred.
In a typically Brazilian Butt Lift the 800 to 120cc of fat can be transferred to each butt cheek to give patients the aesthetic results they want from their butt augmentation.

This is a very common question, as some patients want a substantial augmentation after the Brazilian Butt Lift. The great thing about fat transfer is that the augmentation can be tailored to each individual patient. It can be used to not only enhance the buttock, but also shape the entire figure.
The maximum amount of fat various from patient to patient. On average I personally put about 800cc of fat per side so a total of 1600cc of fat per patient. Some patients can have up to 1300cc of fat placed on each side and a total of 2600cc of fat.
The amount of fat available to harvest, compliance of the buttock and skin are all factors in the amount of fat that can be placed for the augmentation. In patients that want a substantial augmentation I will place as much fat as the buttock will hold. Once you force more fat into the buttock than it can hold puts the patient at risk for loss of the fat and infection.
It is important to see a board certified plastic surgeon that commonly performs this procedure so that you can achieve the best possible result safely.
This is a very common question as some patients have more fat that was liposuctioned than can be injected during their Brazilian Butt Lift. Unfortunately the fat can’t be stored for a later date.
Fat is very fragile and does not tolerate storage or manipulation very well. If patients desire a second round of fat transfer for their butt augmentation then they will need to have liposuction performed again prior to fat transfer.
Depending on the individual patient, different areas that were not previously liposuctioned can be used for fat donor sites. Patients may also have a second round of liposuction on previously liposuctioned areas if they still have fat remaining in these areas. However this fat tends to be more fibrous and less high yield in terms of good donor fat for a Brazilian Butt Lift.
If patients do not have enough fat for a second round of fat transfer, then they may consider an augmentation with a butt implant. The implants can help thin patients achieve the projection and shape that they desire.
